Folkin it, Richmond Style

I love festivals. When we were dancing Thomas and I participated in two of the biggest folk dance festivals in the world and LOVED them. Last weekend we went to two days of the Richmond Folk Festival held downtown by the James River. Although the Richmond Folk Festival comes no where near to comparing to other cool big festivals we've attended, we still had a good time.

It was mostly a music festival (we were really disappointed there wasn't more dancing) but there were also crafts and food. We saw a bunch of shows including a Celtic group and a really fun Creole band. Our favorite was Swamp Dog, a crazy older R&B singer who was hilarious!

On Saturday the American Civil War Center was offering free admission so we spent a couple of hours walking through the exhibits. Brinley slept like a champ both Friday evening and a lot of the day on Saturday (which we paid for during the nights, but was worth our sanity during the festival).

First time all bundled up! I love this cute girl!
Outside of the American Civil War Center, which is built in the old Tredeger Iron Works buildings (a place that built Confederate weapons and was a big reason why the capitol was moved to Richmond).

Bless you, funnel cake!

I love folk art...this was huge and made entirely of seeds and grass and stuff.

look at you all up and at 'em! You look absolutely terrific! We were so excited when we stumbled upon some group of 65 yr + cloggers at a wild west roundup. And there's even a group here called the ukranian dancers of Dallas! We thought about joining, but the only practice on sundays, wouldn'tyaknowit. Ah, folk dance. How it brings the world together! :)
